Sun Garden
The aim of the design for this rear garden was to capitalise on the amount of sunlight coming into the space. It was imperative to ensure that there was adequate seating areas around the garden so that at any time of the day, the clients could be sitting in sunlight.
To this end, the design included an increase in the size of the original patio area directly outside the rear of the house. The new sandstone patio curves outward into the garden and provides seating for both afternoon and evening sun. Due to the slope of the site, a curved retaining wall was used to border the patio. This wall has a cavity in the middle which allows a range of plants to grow permanently here.
Two steps lead from the patio down to the lower part of the garden. A sandstone path from the base of the steps, leads ultimately to the wooden garden shed, passing by a seating area to take advantage of the morning sunshine. A circular lawn borders the path and forms the base of the retaining wall.
