Got the keys !
Our little adventure begins ! Sinéad signed up for an allotment from Dublin City Council a few years ago. When she got a phone call the other day saying that a plot was available we were bit surprised. We’d completely forgotten about the application. The more and more we thought about it, we got more and more excited! Our own little patch to fix up, build raised beds, grow veg on and generally make ours. Sinéad called into DCC, paid over 120 euro, signed a contract and got a set of keys for plot number 25!
The allotment is based in St Anne’s park in Raheny. The plots themselves are in a closed area, a walled garden which is really great. Good security and some shelter from the elements. It’s an 8mx8m space which should be more than enough for the two of us to work on. There is water on site and lockers. The various other plot owners/renters seem to be well organised and have created a website, http://www.stannesallotments.com. There’s a forum on it which should be useful for asking questions. Overall, it’s quite exciting! We hope to keep a regular blog here about the allotment, partly for us to just keep a log of what we are up to and also as a potential guide for other people starting off with allotments.
Next step is to visit the site and see what the plot is actually like!
